Our Mission

The Volunteer Services department exists to advance the continuous improvement of our residents’ quality of life.  Our mission is to enable, encourage and engage the residents of The Virginia Home through innovative utilization of our community’s resources.

Our Volunteers

The Virginia Home volunteers are extraordinary.  In 2007, our volunteers dedicated over 7,300 hours of their time to improving the residents’ quality of life.  In the corporate sector, this would translate into over $137,000, but to The Home, their work is priceless.  Their contributions of time and talent add greatly to our residents’ quality of life.  Because of our volunteers,

  • Hours of music, dance, and song have been performed here, providing residents with entertainment and leisure activities that far exceeds the ability of the staff alone;
  • Our beautiful garden bloomed in its full glory this Spring and remains one of the most pleasant, peaceful places to which residents and staff can retreat;
  • Games upon games of bingo, bridge, poker, and Scrabble have been won and lost between residents and volunteers, providing hours of fun and amusement;
  • The Great Ball of China took our residents to the Orient last March with elaborate decorations, glimmering evening wear, and a party to remember;;
  • All 130 resident birthdays are celebrated with gifts and parties, year after year;
  • More residents were able to venture out into the community to shop, play, learn and eat with the assistance of outing companions.

Volunteers are truly the heart of our Home. They are our governing Board of Trustees, the Junior Board, and scores of individuals, families, schools, businesses, and organizations who give freely of their time and their talents to better the lives of our residents. Volunteers augment our quality professional services with the caring support, assistance and friendship that comes from the heart. They truly are our good fortune.
