Engaging the Community

Raising money for others, celebrating holidays, and celebrating each other: these are the things that we commemorate here at The Home. Spend some time on our page and take a look at the special events we emphasize at The Virginia Home.

March 28: Actor and philanthropist Gary Sinise visited with residents the afternoon before he spoke at our 9th Annual Stories of Courage & Grace event.  Residents surprised him with an extraordinary gift for his Gary Sinise Foundation raised through their 2018 Aquathon.  The foundation’s mission is to serve and honor our nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need by creating and supporting unique programs that entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities.

April 11:  The Virginia Home received the 2019 Excellence in Virginia Government Award for Community Enhancement from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. This award celebrates the accomplishments of Virginians who have made contributions to the practice of government and to the well-being of our communities and citizens.  Robert A. Crouse, President & CEO of The Home (front row, third from left) accepted the award on behalf of the organization.  Click photo to see video created by the School and shared with guests.

May 16: Residents participated in Special Olympics, prompting a sweet story by local NBC affiliate, WTVR-12. Click photo to read the story!
