Our Occupational therapy department works to maintain and improve function for Virginia Home residents. The Department has three CNAs, a part time OT and a full time OT. Services include provision and maintenance of splints, adaptive feeding equipment, assistive technologies, fall prevention devices, low vision aids and adaptations. Groups are run throughout the day. These include morning exercise and meditation, manicures, bingo, book club, crafts, cognitive groups and lunch bunch. One on one restorative services are provided and may include passive range of motion, feeding for residents with Dysphagia and fine motor skills. Our part time OT is a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. She works with residents individually with an aim to reduce pain or limitations in movement, to improve physical function, and to promote general well-being by increasing residents’ awareness of themselves and by expanding residents’ functional movement.
Our Director of Occupational Therapy is a RESNA Assistive Technology Professional. She keeps up with the latest technologies to serve the needs of our residents and make them as independent as possible. Power wheelchair drive control methods, custom molded positioning systems, phone access, computer access, iPad access and environmental control units are just some of the things OT evaluates for, provides, trains and maintains.
