Volunteers are truly the heart of our Home. They are our governing Board of Trustees, the Junior Board, and scores of individuals, families, schools, businesses, and organizations who give freely of their time and their talents to better the lives of our residents. Volunteers enhance our quality professional services with the caring support, assistance and friendship that comes from the heart.
Volunteers help enhance the quality of life of the residents at The Virginia Home by giving their time and talent. Here are a few of the wonderful programs and activities volunteers have been involved in:
- Spending hours upon hours of playing games including Bridge, BINGO, ping pong, hockey, kickball, Black Jack, board games, and Summer Olympic activities.
- Assisting and visiting with residents in their rooms. Helping put away clothes and straighten up shelves.
- Serving a cup of coffee at Rec Café, assisting with crafts in Occupational Therapy, passing out programs at the Extravaganza, painting a mural for The Ball, writing a letter with a resident in Open Shop; volunteers help the staff at The Virginia Home with ongoing programs and special events year round.
- Special performances, musical concerts and sing a longs, magicians and student actors The Virginia Home loves to be entertained.
Many residents need assistance with the simple things, such as opening mail, watering plants, strolling in the park, organizing their rooms, and writing letters. Offering your assistance in this capacity is one of the nicest things you can do…and the most appreciated too.
Many of our residents have computers in their room and sometimes need help with simple tasks like checking email, updating Facebook, playing games and searching the web. We would love to have consistent volunteers to help with resident computer needs.
