Daily Impact
Annual Giving
With your help, we provide a secure lifetime residence and nursing care for 130 adults living with physical disabilities.
Financial assistance from federal and state sources administered through Medicaid covers the basic care needs of our residents, but many of the programs that make life so fulfilling here are made possible through the support of friends like you.
There are a variety of ways to make your charitable gift. Consider a one-time gift, a monthly gift, a pledge or other customizable options to increase your daily impact.
All contributions to The Virginia Home are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Our Dreams Need a Bigger Home Campaign
Learn More
The Virginia Home announced plans to build a $128 million, state-of-the-art campus in Hanover County. The new facility will initially expand capacity by over 20%, increasing from 130 to 160 full-time residents, with room for future growth.
“This new campus will let us serve more individuals with greater independence, dignity, and comfort,” said Douglas Vaughan Jr., President and CEO. “It’s a dream we’ve had since 1894—and now, it needs a bigger home.”
Designed with best practices in care, the new facility will enhance safety, accessibility, and quality of life. Residents and visitors will benefit from larger rooms, natural light, scenic views, and a single-level layout.
New features will support dignity and independence, including self-sufficiency technology and private bathrooms with individual storage, replacing the current shared model.
The campus will also host a long-awaited day program for up to 60 participants, serving those on the waitlist and individuals not needing full-time care.
Located on a 70-acre site off I-295 in Hanover, the campus allows for outdoor amenities and future expansion, including housing for more independent residents.
Ways to Get Involved:
- Discuss how you can support the project
- Receive project updates
- Visit The Virginia Home
- Tour the future campus

One Home, Many Stories

“As we aged, we naturally began looking for a way for Jim to live independently from us. We could not have imagined, when we were told of our child’s disability, that there would be a place like The Virginia Home in our future. Every person deserves to live the life they desire, and The Home will provide that opportunity for Jim and so many others in the years to come.”
